| SACRED SELECTIONS IRVINE FUNDRAISER Tu-tu clad outfielders, Ironman playing second, and a scuba diver, fin flopping to beat out a throw to first, were just a few of the hysterical highlights of the most bizarre co-ed softball game I’ve ever seen, let alone played in. Saturday November 19th the days activities kicked off with the first PAY TO PLAY or PAY TO PRANK softball tournament. The unexpected surprise that this concept actually worked is only matched by the unlikely chances this concept will ever make the majors. The game was periodically announced by the voice of Arnold Schwartznegger eminating from the mouth of Jeff Kreil. It was both a very convincing impersonation of the former governor and a lot funnier than I've ever heard Arnie before. The game was intensely competitive, the lead and levels of play both varying widely. Not since the BlackSox scandal has money played such a pivotal role in the outcome of a game. The game was ultimately determined by the wallets of the players and their fan base. I have never been prouder of blatant bribery and graft working for the betterment of a good cause. I suppose I should explain at this point that PAY TO PRANK included the opportunity to erase runs by $5 per run. A pretty convenient way to compete against an 10 run inning. This gives a whole new flavor to salary caps. At any rate a very enjoyable day of softball, fun, food and fellowship was had by all. At the end of the ninth about $600 was raised for Sacred Selections. Later Saturday, evening after several doses of ibuprofen, ice baths and hot showers the players along with family, friends, brothers and sisters from about seven of the local congregations met at the Irvine Community Center to participate in a dinner, live and silent auctions on behalf of the foundation. The minute we walked into the event and dining room, the amazing efforts of the event coordinators was evident. With over 140 in attendance, superb auction item displays, crisp, engaging decor and fabulous aromas from the kitchen, we knew it was going to be a great night. Jeff Kreil, eemcee'd the evenings activities and was the voice of the live auction. The success, energy and entertainment experience was probably best expressed by many overheard conversations about, "Can't wait for next year". So much credit and appreciation go to Matt & Kaylee Doerr, Mark and Alicia Kercheville, Jeff & Jenny Kreil, Isaiah & Stephanie Leslie, Kacy & Lisa Marrs and Steven & Stephanie McGee. Sacred Selections also is very grateful for all who attended, donated and provided the energy and excitement for the evening. THANK YOU ALL.
Drum Roll... $7500 raised for a child and their future family. GREAT JOB, and don't forget & NEXT YEAR.
